Fake Yojana Websites: 5 Red Flags to Spot Them
Every major new welfare scheme in India triggers the same wave: dozens of lookalike websites offering "online apply" long before applications exist. The Yuva Shakti Yojana is no exception. Here is how to tell the real from the fake.
Red flag 1: "Apply online" before the government opens applications
The Yuva Shakti Yojana's own operational guidelines are still awaited — registration has not begun anywhere. Any site taking "applications" now is collecting your data for its own purposes.
Red flag 2: Non-government domains
Real applications run on .gov.in domains (here: yubasathi.wb.gov.in). Sites on .online, .in, .com, or .xyz with official-sounding names are private operations, no matter how many tricolors they display.
Red flag 3: Asking for documents or OTPs
Fake portals ask for Aadhaar numbers, bank account details, and even OTPs "to verify your application." A real government portal never asks for your OTP on a third-party page, and no genuine scheme collects documents before announcing eligibility criteria.
Red flag 4: Registration fees
Welfare scheme registration is free. "Pay ₹99 to reserve your Bharosa Card" is a scam, full stop.
Red flag 5: Fake urgency
"Last date tomorrow! Apply now!" — for a scheme whose guidelines have not even been published. Urgency is the scammer's favorite tool.
The safe routine
Type official addresses yourself, check the scheme's real status before acting, and never share OTPs. If you already entered details on a suspicious site, watch your bank statements and consider updating your Aadhaar-linked mobile's security. Back to the Yuva Shakti guide.
